Primitive Marriage Chest

£395.00

103 CM WIDE

58 CM DEEP

72 CM HIGH

Here we have a great example of what historians refer to as an arc.

Primitive construction techniques using planks all hand hewn using an adze. Overlapped and pegged joints throughout.

Most furniture was built using this technique up until around 1500. Pockets in Wales and mountain areas of Eastern Europe continued.

Likely made of Beech and probably was painted when first built, now just the carved symbols adorn the frontage.

All solid and no rot. Old inactive beetle holes.

Statement piece of furniture that is very useful having storage and flat lid.
